FAQs on Digital Wall Art

Where can I print my digital art?

There are various ways for you to print your digital art to achieve high-quality results.

Online Print Services

Depending on your geographical location, here are some suggested websites for your consideration:

  • USA: shutterfly.com | canvaspop.com | printique.com | mpix.com | posterjack.com | vistaprint.com
  • Canada: posterjack.ca | pictorem.com | canvaschamp.ca |  vistaprint.com
  • UK: theprintspace.co.uk | photobox.co.uk | cewe.co.uk | beyondprint.co.uk
  • Europe: whitewall.com/eu | beyondprint.eu

Please check their websites for specific regional availability and delivery options.

Local Printing

Large retail stores or office supply shops often offer convenient and affordable printing services. However, print quality and colour accuracy may vary, so it is worth checking their capabilities in advance.

When using online or local print services, please ensure you send the actual files (e.g., JPEG, PNG, or PDF) rather than file-sharing links to avoid any issues. If you need assistance, contact the print service’s customer support team.

Home Printing

If you have a high-quality printer, you can print your artwork at home. To achieve the best results:

  • Use suitable ink and high-quality fine art paper (at least 200 gsm).
  • Select the “high-quality printing” option instead of standard office printing.

Although home printing is convenient, professional printing services are recommended for superior colour accuracy and finish.

What type of printing paper should I use?

Choosing the right printing paper is crucial for achieving the desired effect in your art print. High-quality art or photo paper is recommended for the best results. Matte, glossy, or fine art textured paper works well depending on the style of the artwork and your personal preference.

General Recommendations

  • Affordable Option: Heavyweight textured matte paper or card stock is a cost-effective choice that produces high-quality prints.
  • Premium Option: For superior quality, opt for paper that is 100% cotton or rag and acid-free. Premium archival fine art paper with a slight watercolour or linen texture delivers the most authentic art reproductions.

When selecting paper, consider three key factors: weight, finish, and texture.

Weight

The weight of the paper affects its durability and overall print quality. We recommend a weight of 280-310 grams per square meter (gsm) for high-quality and durable prints suitable for framing or mounting.

  • Heavyweight (300 gsm and above): Ideal for framed or mounted high-quality prints. This type of paper supports heavier inks and produces sharp images.
  • Medium weight (200-300 gsm): A versatile option that balances affordability and quality, suitable for display and storage prints.
  • Lightweight (120-200 gsm): Suitable for budget-friendly prints or those handled frequently. While cost-effective, this paper is more prone to creasing and damage.

Finish

The paper’s finish influences the appearance and feel of the final print:

  • Glossy: High sheen that enhances colour brightness and sharpness. However, it reflects light, which can be problematic for artwork displayed behind glass.
  • Matte: A softer, muted finish that offers a classic look. Ideal for prints displayed behind glass as it minimizes glare.
  • Semi-Matte: A balance between matte and glossy, providing moderate shine without excessive glare.

Texture

The texture of the paper adds character to the print:

  • Smooth: Perfect for detailed images or artwork with subtle colour gradients.
  • Textured: Adds depth and interest, particularly to black-and-white prints or art reproductions, giving them a tactile quality.

What is the correct printing method?

Whether you print at home or at a print shop, please follow these steps to achieve the best results:

  • Disable the “Fit To Printable Area” option:
Ensure that the “Fit To Printable Area” option is unchecked before printing. This ensures your print will maintain the exact size specified in your file, preventing the need for trimming or reprinting to fit your frame.
  • Enable borderless printing (if applicable):
If your artwork’s layout extends to the edges of the paper, activate the “Borderless Print” option in your printer settings. This prevents unintentional white borders from appearing around your design.
  • Avoid colour correction:
Whether you’re printing at home or using a professional online printing service, ensure that no automatic colour correction is applied. This preserves the original colours of your digital file, ensuring an accurate representation of your artwork.
